Site of New Firehouse?

A firestorm of controversy has begun over the proposed new firehouse. After years of indecision it appears the village is close to an unpopular solution.

One proposal would have the new fire house built on this site. The police and village hall would expand using the current space now occupied by the fire department.

Another cheaper proposal would expand the current building to include the Village Paint Store and some of the newly developed Village Green.

The only thing that everyone agrees on is the appearance of the new firehouse. It shouldn't look anything like the CVS building.

It's hard to believe the front half of this building houses two Class A Pumpers, a 100' Aerial Tower and a Light Rescue vehicle. The Scotia Fire Department has 12 paid career professionals on staff and 34 volunteer professionals. Last year they responsed to 1155 calls.

The department was established in 1873 as the Neptune Engine Co. #1. The John Miller Hook and Ladder Co. was added in 1910, creating a two company department.
